A PF of 0.93 means an overall loss (gross profit below gross loss). On top of that, the equity-based max DD was 96.5%: at some point in the 11.5 years, almost all of the account's equity was gone.

PF Close to 1, Yet a 96.5% Drawdown

Among the 7 EAs rated Blown-up, ArtQuant Gold's PF of 0.93 was the closest to 1. Looking only at total profit and loss, it seems "roughly break-even", yet the drawdown along the way reached 96.5%. It is an example of how PF alone does not tell you how deep the dips go. Drawdown has to be read on equity, not balance (equity vs balance drawdown).

Its 1,995 trades are also the second most among the 7 Blown-up EAs, after XG Gold Robot MT5 (3,271). This result was not decided by a handful of trades (how many trades a backtest needs).

Blown Up on Another Broker's Real Ticks Too

Some of the 43 EAs were also tested separately on HFM real-tick data. ArtQuant Gold also blew up over 7.5 years of HFM real ticks, giving it a Blown-up rating in both environments — MetaQuotes (1-minute OHLC) and HFM (real ticks).

The 1-minute OHLC model can be optimistic for scalpers with thin take-profits, but a blow-up under a model that leans optimistic is the more certain verdict (real ticks vs OHLC). Since the verdict was the same on real ticks as well, we do not consider this a result that occurs only with a particular feed or model. For how results shift between brokers in general, see cross-broker EA results.

Price, Reviews and the Result

  • Its $700 price is above both the median price of the 7 Blown-up EAs ($499) and that of the 17 Excellent EAs ($299).
  • Its 24 reviews are the 3rd most among the 7 Blown-up EAs, after XG Gold Robot MT5 (109) and Aurum AI mt5 (47).

It is one of the EAs supporting the overall conclusion of the 43-EA test: price and review count are not proof of quality. For the full analysis, see the 43 gold EA mass backtest.

Limitations of This Test (Please Read)

  • All figures are on default settings. Results may differ with the vendor's recommended settings. This article reproduces buying the EA and running it as shipped; it does not judge the overall value of the product.
  • The main figures come from a single feed (MetaQuotes-Demo). For the HFM real-tick retest, only the rating (Blown-up) is published.
  • This article covers backtests only and does not include live (forward) performance.

Summary (Facts Only)

  • On 11.5 years of MetaQuotes real data with default settings, ArtQuant Gold scored PF 0.93, 96.5% max DD, 1,995 trades (Blown-up).
  • It also blew up in a 7.5-year retest on HFM real ticks — the result was consistent across two environments.
  • Its PF was the closest to 1 in the Blown-up group, yet its equity drawdown reached 96.5%.
  • If you are considering it, we recommend reproducing a long period (10+ years) with the free demo on your own broker's feed with default settings, and checking the equity-based drawdown.

Our own EAs are tested to the same standard (real ticks, long periods, equity DD disclosed) and all figures are published. See our verification methodology and the EA ranking.
